25th Anniversary

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Ronald McDonald House®

Southern Alberta. Since the original House opened its doors as Ronald McDonald House Calgary in 1985, our organization has provided a home away from home and support for sick children and their families. In the last 25 years, there have been close to 18,000 family visits to the House.

The House has grown significantly since the 1985 ribbon cutting at the first location in Killarney, just west of the Children's Hospital. A name change to Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta took place in 2005 and then in April 2007, the House moved its operations to the west campus of the University of Calgary to be directly across the street from the new Alberta Children's Hospital. In 2009, Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta announced a capital campaign to build a House in Red Deer. This is a historic moment because this is the first time a Ronald McDonald House in Canada has opened in a second location. The House will be known as Ronald McDonald House® Central Alberta.

Although there has been tremendous growth in the support programs available for families, one thing has remained the same. The House continues to provide a place to rest in an environment of support through helpful volunteers, its staff, and most importantly, from other families who are going through similar circumstances and can truly understand the challenges of dealing with a child's illness.

We have been able to provide the comforts of the House for the past 25 years through the tremendous support from our donors and volunteers. Thank you for extending the generosity of your time and funding to Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta.

We are celebrating this milestone through a variety of activities and announcements during the entire year and we invite you to join us!
