Becoming a Legacy Builder
Below are some brief descriptions on some of the ways to participate and become a Legacy Builder.
Bequests
A charitable bequest refers to a disposition in a will to a charity of a particular amount of money, specific property, or a percentage of the estate.
Donors are invited to provide Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta information about their bequests.
Life Insurance
A donor may make a gift of life insurance to Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta by:
- Irrevocably assigning a paid-up life insurance policy to the organization;
- irrevocably assigning a life insurance policy to the organization on which premiums remain to be paid; or,
- naming the organization as the primary or successor beneficiary of the proceeds of a policy.
Gifts of Residual Interest
A residual interest gift is an arrangement under which property is deeded to Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta, but the donor retains use of the property for life or a specific period of time.
A common residual interest gift is when a donor gives a residual interest gift in a principal residence and continues living there.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
A Charitable Remainder Trust is a form of Residual Interest Gift. The donor (settlor) transfers property to a trust where it is held and managed for a set period of time.
