About Us
Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta provides a home away from home and support for sick children and their families. Since opening in 1985, the purpose of the House has remained the same: keeping families together while the child is being treated for illness in a compassionate and comfortable, home-like atmosphere.
The House can accommodate up to 23 families, each with their own suite and private bath, while sharing kitchen facilities and common areas. Families pay a nominal fee per night, which is only a portion of the cost to operate. Although occupancy is not based on financial need, the nightly fee is purposely kept at this rate to make it an affordable option for all families wanting to be close to their ill family member.
The House has seen over 17,000 family visits since it opened. It is a non-profit organization owned and operated by the Southern Alberta Pediatric Hostel Society. It is one of 12 Houses across Canada and one of over 250 around the world.
